Major Joint Operation Seizes 9,427 Yaba Tablets Near Bangladesh Border

Agartala: Acting on specific intelligence, security forces seized about 9,427 Yaba tablets-worth roughly Rs 50 lakh on the illegal market-during a joint operation by the police and the Border Security Force (BSF) near the India–Bangladesh border in Tripura’s North district on Saturday (date not specified in the report).
The raid took place in the Raghna international border area under the jurisdiction of Dharmanagar police station. Personnel from BSF’s 97 Battalion, working in coordination with state police, launched the operation after receiving a tip-off about suspected narcotics being stored in the border zone.
According to officials, BSF troops alerted police and a joint search was carried out near the Raghna Integrated Check Post (ICP). Security personnel recovered 48 packets close to the border fencing; verification of the consignment confirmed a total of 9,427 Yaba tablets, authorities said.
Preliminary inquiries indicate the drugs were apparently staged near the border for smuggling into Bangladesh. Investigators suspect the traffickers abandoned the consignment and fled after detecting security movement in the area.
The seized narcotics have been handed over to Dharmanagar police and legal proceedings have been initiated under relevant provisions of law. Security has been tightened in the border region, and a joint police–BSF investigation is underway to trace and apprehend those involved in the smuggling network.
Yaba-an inexpensive pill that typically contains methamphetamine and caffeine-is widely trafficked across parts of South and Southeast Asia, authorities noted, making such recoveries significant for regional drug-control efforts.
