Telangana Unveils Ambitious AI Initiatives at Global Summit
Hyderabad witnessed the inauguration of the two-day Global AI Summit by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, alongside IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu, at the HICC Convention Centre. The Summit, starting September 5, marks a significant effort by the State to harness Artificial Intelligence (AI) for future advancements.
In his address, CM Revanth Reddy emphasized Telangana’s dedication to AI, aiming to position Hyderabad as a future-ready city. He unveiled plans for an AI City, slated to enhance service delivery to over one crore citizens by 2027. Reddy acknowledged the transformative power of technology, balancing both its potential benefits and the disruptions it may cause.
Minister D. Sridhar Babu articulated Telangana’s intent not just to join, but to lead the AI revolution. He cited the State’s impressive 11.3% annual economic growth, a projected GSDP of $176 billion, and the highest per capita income of $4,160 as indicators of its ambitious journey towards becoming a trillion-dollar economy.
A key highlight is the proposed AI City near Hyderabad, encompassing 200 acres dedicated to AI research and applications, including an AI school. The partnership with World Trade Centre, Shamshabad, will facilitate immediate operational capabilities for AI-driven companies.
Stressing collaboration, Sridhar Babu announced plans to involve global AI experts and crowdsource ideas from various sectors to shape ethical AI policies. He also committed to stringent regulations to prevent misuse, especially regarding deepfakes and misinformation.
IT industry leader B.V.R. Mohan Reddy underscored the importance of integrating AI concepts into education and establishing incubation centers and a translational research office for AI.
