Breaking: Dramatic Victory as Security Forces Eliminate Six Maoists in Intense Telangana Showdown
TELANGANA: Maoist Encounter Leaves Six Dead, Two Policemen Injured
In a significant encounter on Thursday, six members of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) were killed by security forces in Telangana’s dense Neeladrigutta forest area, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, near the Chhattisgarh border. The operation also saw two elite Greyhounds policemen injured.
The exchange of fire erupted when the Greyhounds, an anti-Maoist squad, conducted a combing operation near Raghunadhapalem village in Karakagudem block, close to Mulugu district. Bhadradri Kothagudem Superintendent of Police B Rohit Raju confirmed the incident, stating, "Six Maoists were killed, and a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered. Unfortunately, two of our personnel were injured."
Among the deceased is Lachanna, a divisional committee member and notorious Maoist commander from Rayapadu, Chhattisgarh, who had a ₹10 lakh reward on his head and faced 50 cases. The other slain Maoists are suspected to be Tulasi, Sukhram, Ramu, Durgesh, and Kosi—all members of the same squad.
This encounter is the first major Maoist clash in Telangana since 2018, when 10 Maoists were killed in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. Notably, the region has been relatively peaceful with only occasional violence in border areas.
The timing closely follows a recent gunbattle in Dantewada district, Chhattisgarh, where nine Maoists, including top leader Macherla Esobu, were killed. Intensified operations under ‘Operation Kagar’ in Chhattisgarh may have pushed some Maoist groups into Telangana’s border forests, potentially leading to Thursday’s deadly encounter.
The confrontation highlights ongoing efforts to curb Left-wing extremism in the region, with Telangana security forces on high alert in forested borders.
