Sikkim Vision 2047: State Forms Committee to Craft Bold Roadmap
The State government has formed a Steering Committee and an Executive Committee to draft the “Sikkim Vision 2047” document, a strategic plan to guide the state’s development over the next two decades, according to a government notification issued on May 25, 2026. The move aims to set priorities and strategies for sustainable, inclusive and resilient growth across economic, social and environmental sectors.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang‑Golay will chair the Steering Committee, with Chief Economic Advisor Prof. Mahendra P. Lama serving as vice‑chairman. The Vision document is intended to provide a roadmap for inclusive economic growth, sustainable development, environmental conservation, infrastructure expansion, governance reform, innovation, cultural preservation and human development, while accounting for Sikkim’s unique geographical, ecological and socio‑cultural characteristics.
The initiative is aligned with the Union government’s “Viksit Bharat @2047” vision, under which states and union territories have been encouraged to prepare long‑term development visions. The Sikkim plan is therefore positioned as the state’s contribution to national long‑term planning while addressing local priorities and constraints.
The 19‑member Steering Committee will include the State chief secretary and heads of various departments, with the Planning & Development Secretary designated as the committee’s member‑secretary. The government will nominate three representatives from Sikkim’s civil society to the panel. Members of the government‑constituted Institute of Transforming Sikkim will also attend meetings to offer inputs.
Prof. Mahendra P. Lama will chair the 12‑member Executive Committee, which comprises departmental heads and names the Sikkim Inspires programme director as member‑secretary. The Executive Committee is tasked with preparing the draft Vision document; the Steering Committee will examine and approve that draft.
The two committees mark the start of a formal, state‑level process to frame long‑term policy and development priorities for Sikkim through 2047, focusing on resilience, sustainability and inclusive prosperity.
