Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi Blasts Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Restoring Statehood to J&K’ Pledge: A Bold Rebuke
News Alert: BJP Leader Naqvi Criticizes Rahul Gandhi’s Promise to Restore Jammu and Kashmir’s Statehood
Shillong, September 5: Former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi vehemently criticized Rahul Gandhi’s assertion that the INDIA bloc will restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) if they come into power. Naqvi accused Gandhi of being trapped in a "feudal mindset and arrogance."
Addressing a rally in J&K, Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, vowed that the INDIA bloc government would restore statehood if the current BJP-led government fails to do so. Naqvi responded sharply, stating that under Congress, J&K’s happiness, development, and trust were shattered, adding that any promises of prosperity would benefit separatists rather than the people.
Naqvi further disparaged past elections in J&K as "jokes," alleging voting irregularities and remote governance. However, he praised recent elections held under BJP rule as transparent and noted a significant increase in voter turnout over the past decade.
The upcoming elections for the 90-member J&K Assembly, the first since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, are scheduled in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with results to be declared on October 8.
In a key political development, the National Conference (NC) and Congress have entered a pre-poll seat-sharing arrangement. The NC will contest 51 seats, while Congress will field candidates for 32. Five seats will witness friendly contests, and two seats are reserved for the CPI(M) and Panthers Party.
The political landscape in J&K is poised for significant changes, with high stakes riding on the promise of restored statehood and transparent governance.
