Four Held in Major Manipur Operation After Kangpokpi Abduction
Joint security forces of the Manipur Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Assam Rifles arrested four men in Kangpokpi district on Monday, May 25, 2026, in an operation tied to the probe into the abduction of six people earlier this month. The arrests follow a series of search operations launched after the May 13 abduction from Leilon Vaiphei village.
The operation that led to the detentions took place along the inter‑village road between P. Molding and Leilon Vaiphei, security officials said. Authorities described the action as part of coordinated efforts to trace those responsible for the May 13 incident and to restore security in the area.
The four apprehended have been named as Thangkhomang Khongsai, 51, of Patbung village, Kangchup; Seikholet Khongsai, 40, of Mongbung Tongneh, New Keithelmanbi; Lunminthang Dimngel, 27; and Kamgoulal Khongsai, 30. Security sources say they are suspected members of armed village volunteer groups operating in Kangpokpi.
Officials said the suspects are also believed to have been involved in anti‑social activities, including extortion, criminal intimidation and illegal possession of arms and ammunition. Investigators emphasized that these allegations are under inquiry and that formal charges will depend on the outcome of further probing.
Police and paramilitary units continue to investigate the possible connection between the four detainees and the May 13 abduction. Further searches and questioning are underway as authorities work to establish facts and determine the next steps in the case.
