Rajat Patidar: RCB Outgunned as SRH’s Top Order Races to 255
Sunrisers Hyderabad crushed Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 55 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Friday after piling up a mammoth 255 for 4, a total RCB skipper Rajat Patidar called simply “very high.” Patidar conceded his side were outplayed by SRH’s top order, saying the visitors “batted brilliantly, they dominated us,” and that chasing 255 proved too big a task.
SRH, sent in after winning the toss, produced an aggressive batting display. Abhishek Sharma unleashed a rapid 56 off 22 balls and Travis Head provided a brisk 16-ball 26. Ishan Kishan anchored the innings with a scintillating 79 from 46 deliveries, supported by Heinrich Klaasen’s 51 off 24. A late cameo from Nitish Kumar Reddy — 29 off 12 — helped the Sunrisers cross the 250 mark.
RCB’s bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught. Rasikh Salam claimed two wickets, while Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya chipped in with one each, but the damage had largely been done by the batters who kept up a relentless scoring rate.
In reply, Venkatesh Iyer gave RCB a blistering start with 44 off 19 balls, but wickets at crucial moments — including the dismissals of Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal — halted the chase. Patidar’s 56 off 39 and an unbeaten 41 from Krunal Pandya narrowed the gap, yet the required rate remained prohibitively high and the recovery came up short.
Patidar pointed to the change in SRH’s bowling mix as another factor, saying that once they varied pace “the wicket did become challenging.” His assessment underlined the gulf between the two sides on the night: a dominant batting performance from Sunrisers and a fighting but insufficient reply from RCB.
