MP Govt Recommends Urgent CBI Probe in Twisha Sharma Death
Bhopal, May 22, 2026 — The Madhya Pradesh government on Friday recommended that the probe into the death of Twisha Sharma, who died on May 12 at Bag Mugalia Extension in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal, be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In an official statement, the state Home Department said it has sent communication to the Centre seeking the CBI takeover. A criminal case has been registered at Katara Hills police station as Crime No. 133/2026.
The first information report lists offences under Sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and under Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. The government named the matter a dowry death incident dated May 12, 2026, in its statement.
“The investigation of the registered case related to the dowry death incident at Bag Mugalia Extension, Katara Hills, Bhopal, dated May 12, 2026, has been proposed to be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI),” the Madhya Pradesh government said. The state also said it has granted consent under Section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946, permitting members of the Delhi Special Police Establishment — under which the CBI functions — to exercise powers and jurisdiction across Madhya Pradesh for this inquiry.
“The Madhya Pradesh government has accorded consent for extension of powers and jurisdiction of members of the Delhi Special Police Establishment in the entire state for investigation of the matter,” the statement added. The notification said the consent covers investigation of the alleged offence, including any abetment and criminal conspiracy linked to the case.
The development followed a meeting in which Twisha’s family petitioned Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for a transparent CBI probe. The death has prompted widespread public discussion and allegations of dowry harassment, with calls from various quarters for an independent investigation.
Officials said the CBI is likely to take formal charge after procedural formalities are completed and relevant documents are received from the Madhya Pradesh Police.
