Nagaland Shines: 87.12% Pass Rate in CBSE Class XII Results
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on May 13, 2026, declared Class XII results for the 2025–26 academic session, reporting that Nagaland registered an overall pass percentage of 87.12%, but institution-level data reveal a stark gap between centrally administered/private schools and government-run schools.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) topped the state with a 98.99% pass rate, with 293 of 296 students qualifying, followed by Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) at 96.33% (105 of 109). Independent (private) schools-which supplied the largest cohort-saw 923 students appear and 804 pass, yielding an 87.11% pass rate.
By contrast, government schools lagged significantly: of 85 students who appeared from government institutions, only 29 passed, producing a pass percentage of 34.12%. Within government schools there was a pronounced gender difference-all eight girl candidates passed (100%), while only 21 of 77 boys cleared the exam (27.27%).
Across Nagaland, girls outperformed boys overall. Of 662 girls who appeared, 608 passed (91.84%), whereas 623 of 751 boys passed (82.96%). In total, 1,413 students from CBSE-affiliated institutions in the state sat the Class XII exams and 1,231 qualified, matching the state pass percentage of 87.12%. The board’s release noted that 1,421 students were registered at the senior secondary level during the year.
According to CBSE’s School Affiliation Re-Engineered Automation System (SARAS 7.0), 48 schools from Nagaland are affiliated with the Board, and 23 of those are affiliated up to the Senior Secondary (Class XII) level. Government-run senior secondary institutions listed in the release include Army Public School, Assam Rifles Training Centre High School, and Sainik School.
At the national level for 2026, CBSE reported 1,768,968 candidates appeared for Class XII, of whom 1,507,109 qualified, yielding an overall pass percentage of 85.20%.
