Silchar Raid: Explosive Find-Pistol & Grenade Recovered, Two Detained
A police search in Silchar on May 6 recovered a 9 mm Italian-made pistol, a Chinese-type grenade and live ammunition from a house in the Ramnagar area along FCI Road, officials said. The operation, carried out at about 4:30 pm, was linked to Lakhipur Police Station Case No. 64/2026 and registered under Section 308(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 25(1)(a) of the Arms Act. Two people found at the premises, identified as Laishram Tiken Meitei and Monalisha Chanu, are currently being questioned.
Officers recovered five rounds of live ammunition during the raid, along with several documents and multiple mobile handsets, police said. The items were seized from the possession of the two suspects and have been taken for forensic examination as part of the ongoing inquiry. Further legal formalities are underway.
The discovery of a grenade alongside an illegal firearm has heightened security concerns across the Barak Valley, where police say they have stepped up surveillance after receiving reports of unlawful arms movement in the region. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether formal charges have been filed against the two individuals.
Police stated the investigation remains active and additional details will be released as inquiries progress.
