Atul Bora’s Third Straight Victory in Bokakhat: Resounding Win
Atul Bora of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) secured a third consecutive term in the Bokakhat Assembly constituency, winning decisively in the latest Assam Assembly elections, according to the Election Commission of India. The victory cements Bora’s hold on the seat and bolsters AGP’s standing within the state’s ruling coalition.
Bora polled 80,987 votes, defeating Hari Prasad Saikia of the Raijor Dal by 60,537 votes; Saikia received 20,450 votes. The margin underscores the scale of Bora’s win in the constituency.
Bora moved to Bokakhat in 2016 after representing the Golaghat constituency for roughly two decades. Since that shift he has consistently prevailed at the polls, making Bokakhat a strong base for his political career.
A senior figure in Assam politics, Bora currently serves as the state’s Agriculture Minister in the Himanta Biswa Sarma government. He previously held ministerial portfolios during the Sarbananda Sonowal administration, overseeing agriculture, horticulture, food processing and animal husbandry.
Bora’s political roots trace to his activism with the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) during the anti-foreigners’ agitation, a formative movement for several regional leaders. He also served as a minister in the AGP government led by Prafulla Kumar Mahanta from 1996 to 2001.
The result reinforces both Bora’s personal political standing and the AGP’s continued relevance in Assam’s coalition politics.
