A four-year-old girl was brutally assaulted and murdered in Nasrapur village in Bhor tehsil of Pune district on May 1, 2026, prompting widespread outrage across Maharashtra and urgent government action. The victim, who had gone to her grandmother’s home for summer holidays, went missing in the afternoon and was later found dead at a nearby cowshed, police sources said.

Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar visited the victim’s family in Pune on May 2, 2026, to offer condolences and promise swift justice. During the visit, family members and local residents confronted her, demanding that the accused be tried immediately and given the harshest possible punishment. In the crowd, Pawar placed a call to Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis to press for quick action.

The Chief Minister instructed the Pune Rural Superintendent of Police to ensure a prompt, rigorous investigation and announced that the case would be fast-tracked. Describing the crime as a “blot on humanity,” he said the state would seek the death penalty to set a stern precedent and ordered increased police patrols in the Bhor region to restore public confidence. Senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police of Pune Rural, have been tasked to oversee the inquiry, the government said.

According to police, the girl was lured from her home at about 3:30 pm on May 1, 2026, by a 65-year-old man who promised to show her a calf. He took her to a nearby cowshed where she was assaulted and then killed; her body was reportedly concealed under a pile of dung. Local CCTV footage, examined by investigators, showed the suspect leading the child toward the cowshed, police sources added.

Tension in Nasrapur rose after the discovery, with villagers surrounding police officials and demanding immediate arrests. Pune Rural Police arrested the accused and produced him before court; he has been remanded to police custody until May 7, 2026, while the investigation continues.

Authorities say they are building a watertight prosecution and have committed to trying the case in a fast-track court. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have pledged to bring all facts to light and ensure that those responsible are punished according to the law.
