Notably, the X accounts of Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, and his youngest daughter, Tiffany Trump, were reportedly hacked to promote a scam involving the Trump family’s new crypto venture, World Liberty Financial. The hack happened as Trump prepared to release his crypto policy platform and as his campaign dealt with the repercussions of a foreign cyberattack.
At approximately 8:15 p.m. ET, posts from Lara Trump’s X account claimed the launch of World Liberty Financial, directing her 1.7 million followers to what were described as the official channels of the project. A minute later, a post from Tiffany Trump’s X account also endorsed the venture. The websites linked in these posts were created that same day and registered through Njalla Okta LLC, a domain hosting platform with roots in the dark web, making it hard to trace the person behind the scheme.
Shortly after these posts, Eric Trump used his own X account to warn followers that his wife’s and sister’s accounts had been compromised, labeling the venture as a scam. All these posts, including Eric Trump’s warning, were deleted soon after, though screenshots had already been captured. The Trump campaign and Trump Organization did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the hack or the status of their crypto venture.
This incident is the latest in a series of hurdles for the Trump family’s crypto initiatives. Since June, multiple digital tokens purporting to be backed by the Trump family have surfaced, none of which could be independently verified for direct connection to Trump. Notably, a token named DJT had pulled in significant funds before collapsing in early August. The controversy arose as Trump has increasingly aligned himself with the crypto sector, a key funding source in this election cycle. Following the posts, the price of solana, a cryptocurrency mentioned in the scam, fell by 9% before recovering.
In the wake of these events, the Trump family’s crypto project has already missed a planned announcement and raises questions about its future viability.
