Starc Boost Sends DC into High Gear vs Rajasthan Royals
Jaipur, April 30 — Delhi Capitals have little time to regroup after a bruising run of results as they prepare to face Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Friday, May 1. The Axar Patel-led side sit seventh with three wins and four losses and need an immediate turnaround to keep their campaign on track.
Delhi have swung between extremes this season. They posted a 250-plus total in one game only to concede a world-record chase, and in a recent match they were shot out for 75 by Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Earlier this month they also suffered a one-run defeat to Gujarat Titans, leaving the team short on momentum and confidence.
Inconsistency with the bat remains Delhi’s biggest worry. While KL Rahul, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi have all produced useful contributions at times, the top and middle order have failed to click together. One positive has been Abhishek Porel’s late cameo as an Impact Player, which helped avert an even lower total; the management may consider him for the playing XI.
There is better news for Delhi’s pace attack: Mitchell Starc has been cleared by Cricket Australia to return to action from May 1. With Lungi Ngidi still unavailable, Starc is likely to replace either Kyle Jamieson or Dushmantha Chameera — a timely boost if he takes the field. Delhi’s bowlers, who struggled to defend 75 in the last game, will need far sharper performances against a strong Rajasthan lineup.
The Royals arrive in high spirits. Their top order has been aggressive, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi taking the attack to bowlers of the highest class and Yashasvi Jaiswal showing good touch. Rajasthan sit fourth after handing Punjab Kings their first defeat of the season — their sixth win in nine matches. (PTI)
