BTS Teams with Maggie Kang for Intimate ‘Keep Swimming’ Documentary
Global pop group BTS has partnered with filmmaker Maggie Kang for the short documentary series Keep Swimming with BTS, with Kang’s episode released on April 27. The series-launched on April 7-builds on the “moving forward” theme introduced in the lead single “Swim” from BTS’s album Arirang and translates that idea into real-life stories about navigating challenges at one’s own pace.
Kang’s episode focuses on her journey behind the Oscar-winning film KPop Demon Hunters and explores questions of identity and creative intent. Reflecting on the film’s success, she said, “I still can’t really believe it even now that it won an Oscar,” and added that she “genuinely wanted to depict Korean culture through animation.” She said audience reactions, especially a strong sense of Korean pride, “meant so much.”
The filmmaker also spoke about her connection to Korea despite living abroad, describing the feeling when she returns: “Every time I come to Korea, the moment the plane touches down, I feel like, ‘I’m home.’ Being Korean has always felt like my number one identity,” she said.
Keep Swimming with BTS aims to shift focus away from visible milestones and toward the sustained effort behind progress. Rather than spotlighting success alone, the series centers on persistence, repetition and the often unseen work that fuels creative and personal growth.
The project features prominent Korean figures from diverse fields, including filmmaker Park Chan-wook, designer Nora Noh, Olympic snowboarder Choi Gaon and Venerable Sunjae, with further participants expected to be announced via BTS’s official channels. Separately, BTS opened their BTS World Tour “Arirang” in North America with two sold-out shows at Raymond James Stadium on April 25 and 26.
