Assam Opposition Urgently Inspects Strong Rooms Before Results
Leaders of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and members of the opposition alliance have stepped up preparations ahead of the Assembly election count by inspecting strong rooms where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are stored. Senior figures including Sibamoni Bora, Diganta Barman, Congress candidate Mira Borthakur and Asom Jatiya Parishad’s Kunki Choudhury have begun visits to key strong room locations in and around Guwahati to check security and ensure transparency ahead of counting day.
Speaking to reporters, Dispur Congress candidate Mira Borthakur said the party held a meeting to brief counting agents on their responsibilities and to underscore the need for vigilance on results day. She said a dedicated team of party workers and alliance members will closely monitor developments and that the leaders will first visit the strong room at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in Guwahati before proceeding to Morigaon. Borthakur added she is confident of Dispur voters’ support and said the campaign is being carried out “under the guidance of Gaurav Gogoi.”
Kunki Choudhury of the Asom Jatiya Parishad echoed the call for vigilance, stressing that the opposition alliance must take all necessary precautions to prevent irregularities during counting. He said designated observers from the alliance are inspecting strong rooms as part of those efforts.
The coordinated inspections by opposition leaders reflect heightened alertness across the alliance as Assam prepares for the crucial counting day. Party officials say the aim of the visits is to ensure a free, fair and transparent electoral process by closely watching EVM storage and counting procedures.
