PM Modi in Sikkim: Unveils Rs 4,000 Cr Projects at Statehood Gala
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Gangtok on Monday evening, April 27, to attend the closing ceremony of Sikkim’s 50th year of statehood and to unveil development projects worth over Rs 4,000 crore. He is expected to formally announce the projects and address the gathering at Paljor Stadium during the golden jubilee event.
Modi was received at the Libing helipad by Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. Authorities said elaborate security arrangements have been put in place across the state capital and surrounding areas ahead of the prime minister’s visit. From the helipad, he is scheduled to lead a colourful roadshow to Lok Bhavan.
On Tuesday, the prime minister will visit the Gangtok Orchidarium. To mark the golden jubilee, the state has developed the Swarnajayanti Maitri Manjari Park as a world-class Orchid Experience Centre to showcase Sikkim’s ecological and floral heritage.
The development package Modi will unveil spans multiple sectors-including infrastructure, connectivity, healthcare, education, power, urban development, environment, tourism and agriculture-reflecting a broad push for regional development. Officials said the announcements aim to accelerate growth and improve public services across the state.
Last year Modi was to attend the opening ceremony of the year-long statehood celebrations but was unable to reach the venue due to inclement weather; he addressed that occasion via video conference from Siliguri in neighbouring West Bengal. (PTI)
