A devastating multi-vehicle collision in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district has resulted in the tragic deaths of eleven individuals, including children. Initial investigations suggest that the horrific crash, which occurred around 8:30 PM on Wednesday, may have been caused by a brake failure in one of the trucks involved.
The incident took place on a roadway descending from the Dramandganj valley towards the Lasoda area. According to Superintendent of Police Aparna Rajat Kaushik, a truck descending the hill apparently lost its brakes and collided with another truck ahead. The impact crushed a car, identified as an Alto, that was pinned between the two trucks. This chain reaction also involved a Bolero vehicle that subsequently struck the Alto and caught fire.
“Due to brake failure, a truck collided with another truck. An Alto car got lodged between them, while another Bolero collided and ignited,” Kaushik reported. Immediately following the accident, police and fire brigade teams rushed to the scene to begin rescue operations, enlisting the help of local residents.
So far, officials have confirmed the identities of some victims. Among the deceased, seven hailed from Mirzapur, three from Madhya Pradesh, and one from the neighboring Sonbhadra district. The victims from Mirzapur’s Jigna area include Shiva Singh (8), Sonam Singh (9), Piyush Singh (14), Pankaj Singh (40), Vandana Singh (43), Vishnu Singh (45), and Veena Singh (47).
District Magistrate Pawan Gangwar stated that all bodies have been sent to the mortuary, and families of the victims have been notified. “There is no law and order issue at the site,” he added, emphasizing that police personnel remain deployed in the area to maintain order and assist in restoring normal traffic flow.
Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. “Efforts are underway to ascertain the exact cause of this tragic incident,” said Kaushik. Further details regarding the investigation are anticipated as officials continue their inquiries.
