A woman allegedly tied her boyfriend to a chair, doused him with kerosene and set him on fire inside her home in Bengaluru’s Anjanapura area on Tuesday, recording the entire attack on her mobile phone, police said. The victim, identified as Kiran, was pronounced dead after succumbing to severe burns, while the accused, named Prerana, was arrested shortly after the incident, officials added.
Police said Prerana and Kiran had worked together at the same shop and had been in a relationship for more than a year. Investigators report that relations had soured recently: Kiran was reportedly ignoring Prerana and had not clarified whether he intended to marry her, which, according to police, led to growing tensions and resentment.
According to the account given by police, Prerana invited Kiran to her house when her mother and uncle were not present. After some conversation, she told him she wanted to profess her love in an unusual manner. When Kiran consented, she blindfolded him, bound him to a chair with rope, poured kerosene over his body and set him alight. Throughout the attack, police say, Prerana recorded the scene on her phone and displayed no sign of remorse.
Responding to reports, law enforcement took Prerana into custody; during questioning she reportedly admitted to the killing and told police she carried out the act as revenge for what she perceived as Kiran’s continued neglect. A senior police officer said the case remains under investigation, and authorities are examining the mobile footage and other evidence to establish the full sequence of events and any applicable charges.
The case has sparked shock and strong reactions in the local community in Anjanapura. Police have urged anyone with additional information or footage related to the incident to come forward as the probe continues.
