CM Leads Spectacular Opening of Jagni Maha Mahotsav in Namphing
The week-long International Jagni Maha Mahotsav began on April 20, 2026, at Shri Krishna Pranami Mangaldham in Namphing, Namchi, drawing a large gathering of devotees and state dignitaries. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang inaugurated the festival alongside the Deputy Speaker, ministers, MLAs, the political secretary to the Chief Minister, advisors, chairpersons, zilla adhakshya, the district collector, the SP and other officials, with attendees coming from across Sikkim and neighbouring regions.
The seven-day Mahotsav is being led by notable spiritual leaders, including Shri Krishna Pranami Dharmacharya Ananta Bibhusit Jagatguru Acharya Shri Krishnamaniji Maharajshri of Nawatanpuridham, Jamnagar (Gujarat); Shri Ananta Bibhusit Jagatguru Acharya Shri Suryanarayana Das Maharajshri of Shri 5 Maha Mangal Puri Dham, Surat; Mahanta Shree 108 Sudakar Maharaj Ji of Sikkim; and Shree Vidushi Usha Mataji of Kripasindhu Gurukul, Simra (Nepal). The programme featured sermons, devotional discourses and a Shrimad Tartam Vani Charcha Parambha session.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Tamang thanked the visiting spiritual leaders and said the Mahotsav offers deep spiritual discourse for devotees, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. Referring to himself as the “chief servant of the State,” he said spiritual interactions have influenced his political journey and reaffirmed his commitment to governance rooted in empathy and the holistic development of the people and the State. He also stressed that positions of authority are transient and urged individuals to strive for peaceful, meaningful lives while the government balances infrastructure development with spiritual welfare.
Tamang announced several initiatives to promote religious tourism, naming projects such as Ram Dham in Rhenock (Pakyong district), development work at Shri Krishna Pranami Mangaldham in Tharpu (Soreng district), and renovation of a temple at Legship (Gyalshing district). He informed the audience that the new Athiti Sadan will be inaugurated virtually on April 28, 2026, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Sikkim. He said Vrindhawan Dham in Dodak (Soreng) is nearing completion and will be inaugurated soon, and that the birthplace of 108 Damodardas Maharaj at Ben (Temi-Namphing constituency) will be developed as a Tirtha Sthan.
The programme included a sermon by Krishnamaniji Maharajshri, talks by Vidushi Usha Ghimirey and 108 Sudakar Maharaj, and a historical report on the Mangaldham presented by Shri Krishna Pranami Dharmasabha president Gopal Chettri tracing the faith’s development from 1977 to the construction of the Athiti Sadan in 2026. The Chief Minister participated in the ParayanPaath Puja Archana with 313 parayans, launched a devotional album titled “RadheyShyam” by S.B. Thapa and Bina Thapa of Namphok, and was felicitated by the organising committee and a delegation from Nepal. The event opened with a welcome address by area MLA and organising committee president B.S. Panth.
