Syndrela Das capped a standout outing at the first leg of the Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championships in Dehradun on April 18, beating Divyanshi Bhowmick 4-1 to win the U-19 girls’ singles and bring the girls’ team events to a close. With that victory, the West Bengal paddler completed a rare double at the tournament, having already claimed the Under-17 singles title earlier in the meet.

Das’s win underlined her rapid rise through the national ranks; she had also taken silver at the Senior National Championships in Indore prior to this event, signalling growing consistency across age groups. In the U-19 singles final she controlled key rallies and converted chances at the net to secure the four-game win over Bhowmick.

The U-19 doubles crown went to Karnataka’s pair Tanishka Kalbhairav and Himanshi Chowdhary, who edged Maharashtra’s Hardee Patel and Divyanshi Bhowmick 3-2 in a five-game thriller. After Patel and Bhowmick forced a decider with a resilient fourth-game fightback, Kalbhairav and Chowdhary raised their intensity in the final game, using precise placement and timely attacking strokes to close out the match.

West Bengal also took the U-17 doubles title when Ankolika Chakraborty and Ahona Ray rallied past Maharashtra’s Naisha Rewaskar and Divyanshi Bhowmick in five games, winning 11-1, 5-11, 4-11, 11-9, 11-9. The results left several players — notably Bhowmick — prominent across multiple finals, highlighting the depth of competition at the Dehradun leg. (PTI)
