Explosive Warning: Himanta Says Remove Mamata or Bengal at Risk
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 18 launched a vigorous attack on West Bengal’s government at a rally in Kalimpong, accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of diverting state resources to “Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators” and saying she must be removed from office to “save Bengal.”
Sarma claimed that while BJP-ruled states such as Assam and Tripura have successfully checked illegal immigration, infiltration continues “unabated” in West Bengal. He alleged that “Mamata Banerjee has earmarked the entire treasury of Bengal for Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators. She sold this land to them for votes,” intensifying his criticism of the Trinamool Congress government.
The Assam chief minister accused Banerjee of having “destroyed” the state during her tenure and warned of dire consequences if she remains in power. “We have to remove Mamata Banerjee as Bengal CM, else one day Bangladeshi Muslims will take away the state from us,” he said, framing his remarks as a warning about the political and demographic future of the state.
Highlighting what he described as a lack of development in north Bengal, Sarma urged voters to seek a change in government and pledged that the BJP would act decisively on illegal immigration if voted to power in the state. “Once the BJP forms a government in Bengal, we will kick out all Bangladeshi infiltrators from this region,” he vowed.
Sarma also addressed the long-standing demand for Gorkhaland, saying the BJP would pursue a constitutional solution and work to ensure justice for the Gorkha community.
The remarks come amid heightened political activity in the region, with the BJP intensifying its campaign against the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. The report did not include an immediate response from Mamata Banerjee or the Trinamool Congress.
