Eastern Nagaland Strongly Backs Frontier MoA — Unity & Peace
The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), together with eight tribal councils and Eastern Naga political workers, unanimously resolved to stand by the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) signed on February 5, the group said after a consultative and coordination meeting held in Mon town on Thursday. The resolution was formally signed by ENPO president Chingmak Chang and general secretary Honang Konyak.
The meeting was attended by key tribal bodies including the Konyak Union, Chang Khulei Setshang, United Sangtam Likhum Pumji, Phom Peoples’ Council, Yimkhiung Tribal Council, Khiamniungan Tribal Council, Tikhir Tribal Council and Eastern Sumi Hoho, among others, who jointly endorsed the decision.
Participants reaffirmed the Tuensang Summit declaration of December 18, 2007, which designated Eastern Nagaland as a “Peace Zone,” and pledged to safeguard the future of younger generations by upholding the MoA concluded between the Government of India, the Government of Nagaland and ENPO.
The meeting stressed unity in pursuing peace, justice through equality, and the preservation of fraternity and integrity across the region. Delegates emphasised the need for comprehensive socio-economic development in Eastern Nagaland to bring it on par with the rest of the state.
Attendees also resolved to coordinate collective efforts to address obstacles that could impede growth and prosperity, signalling a concerted push for stability and development in the Frontier Nagaland Territory.
By formally backing the February 5 MoA and invoking the Tuensang Summit declaration, ENPO and allied tribal councils aim to present a united front in implementing agreed measures and advancing the region’s peace and development agenda.
