Elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) concluded on Sunday with a reported voter turnout of about 83 per cent, officials said, as polling across the council area ran largely peacefully despite a few isolated disturbances. Voting began at 7 am and ended at 5 pm, and the State Election Commission said the final turnout figure could rise after reports from all polling stations are compiled.
Anurag Sen, secretary of the Tripura State Election Commission, described the overall process as calm. “The polling process concluded at 5 pm with a turnout of about 83 per cent. While some minor issues and isolated incidents were reported, these were promptly handled by the police. There have been no reports of major violence, and the overall situation remains peaceful,” he said.
Sen added that there were no instances of electronic voting machine (EVM) malfunctioning during voting hours. “Some issues were detected during the morning mock polls, and those machines were immediately replaced. No such problems were reported during voting hours,” he noted.
The commission has ordered a re-poll at polling station 17/39 in the Pekurjala–Janmejoynagar constituency of Sepahijala district following complaints of tampering with a ballot unit; the re-poll is scheduled for April 16, 2026. Police also reported a few law-and-order incidents during the day, including an attack in the Boxanagar area of Sepahijala where miscreants allegedly hurled crude bombs and security personnel fired blank rounds to disperse the crowd; the situation was later brought under control.
Minor violence was reported elsewhere, including the vandalism of a vehicle belonging to a BJP candidate. Police sources said one person was injured in that incident and later succumbed to their injuries. Despite these isolated events, authorities maintained that polling across TTAADC areas saw robust voter participation and was conducted largely without major disruption.
