Delhi Weather Alert: Intense Downpour Drenches the Capital – Watch Stunning Video!
Delhi Weather Overview: Heavy Rains Lash Parts of Capital, Yellow Alert Issued
Several areas in Delhi experienced heavy rains today, including RK Puram, where commuters were seen navigating through the downpour. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert, predicting light to moderate showers throughout the day, extending possibly until Thursday due to increased rainfall activity.
The Safdarjung meteorological station, a key indicator of Delhi’s weather, reported trace rainfall until 8:30 am today, with no recorded rain in the preceding 24 hours. Nonetheless, light rain was observed in multiple localities, such as Rajouri Garden, Mundka, Paschim Vihar, Palam, Hauz Khas, RK Puram, Vasant Kunj, Mehrauli, Chattarpur, Model Town, Rohini, Badli, New Friends Colony, and Kalkaji.
Mahesh Palawat, Vice President of Skymet Meteorology, noted that light rain is likely to continue at most locations until Thursday, with potential for moderate showers. He attributed the temporary lull in the rain to the monsoon trough’s shift towards central India, influenced by a deep depression. However, with the trough returning to Delhi from early Monday, cloudy skies and renewed rainfall are expected.
To date, Delhi has recorded 882.1 mm of annual rainfall, with 837.4 mm occurring during the monsoon months of June, July, and August. The IMD forecasts above-normal rainfall for northwest India in September, suggesting Delhi could surpass 1,000 mm in annual rainfall. The average rainfall for September stands at 123.4 mm.
Stay tuned for further updates on Delhi’s evolving weather conditions.
