Security forces arrested four suspected militants from different insurgent groups on April 2, 2026, near the India–Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district’s Yangoubung village, officials said. The operation took place under the jurisdiction of Moreh police station and was carried out following intelligence inputs, police added.

The detained were identified as Keisham Sumanta Meitei, 25, whom authorities say is a member of the People’s Liberation Army; Angom Somorjit Singh, 32, linked to the NRFM; and Yumnam Naoba Singh, 26, and Khundrakpam Shyamson Meitei, 25, both associated with the Kangleipak Communist Party (MFL). Manipur Police tweeted that “On 02.04.2026, security forces arrested 04 (four) VBIGs,” using the term VBIGs to refer to the armed individuals apprehended.

Police said the arrests form part of intelligence-driven combing, cordon-and-search operations being conducted across Manipur to track down persons allegedly involved in extortion and other criminal activities. Authorities stressed these efforts are aimed at disrupting networks that threaten security in border and vulnerable areas.

Security agencies have also stepped up area-domination exercises and deployed convoys in sensitive stretches to protect supply lines. Officials said the movement of 276 vehicles carrying essential commodities along National Highway 37 was ensured, and 117 nakas (checkpoints) were established across hill and valley districts; no one was detained during those checks, police reported.

Police statements indicated the operation was intended to strengthen law-and-order measures in the border belt and to reassure residents and transporters that authorities are taking active steps to prevent intimidation and safeguard essential movement.
