The Bombay High Court has dismissed actress Anita Advani’s plea seeking legal recognition of her marriage to the late superstar Rajesh Khanna, upholding an earlier verdict by the Dindoshi sessions court. A bench led by Justice Sharmila Deshmukh, after hearing arguments from both sides, said in clear terms that “the appeal is dismissed,” though the court has not yet issued a detailed order explaining the decision.
The dispute has been mired in controversy since Rajesh Khanna’s death in 2012 and grew into a prolonged legal battle between his family and Anita Advani. Advani has maintained that she was in a long-term relationship with Khanna that was “like a marriage,” and she alleged she was evicted from the actor’s well-known bungalow following his death.
During the hearing, the court also heard submissions made on behalf of Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna and Dimple Kapadia. With the high court dismissing the appeal, the Dindoshi sessions court’s earlier finding remains in force, pending publication of the full judgment that will provide the bench’s detailed reasoning.
