Delhi Police Stop Cremation, Seize Woman’s Body in Suspicious Death
The Delhi Police on Tuesday stopped a cremation in west Delhi’s Hari Nagar and seized the deceased woman’s body after a Police Control Room (PCR) caller alleged she had been killed by family members and was being taken for last rites, officials said. The call reached the Hari Nagar police station at about 2 pm, prompting an immediate deployment to the site.
On arrival, officers intercepted the relatives and took possession of the body, a senior police officer told reporters. The body was moved to a mortuary for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
A preliminary inquiry found that the family had already begun preparing for the last rites when the PCR call was received, which raised suspicion about the circumstances of the woman’s death. Police said they are questioning family members to reconstruct the sequence of events.
“We are examining all angles, including the possibility of foul play,” the officer said. The identity and age of the deceased have not been officially disclosed.
According to sources, the PCR caller alleged the woman was killed by her family; police said their quick response was aimed at preventing any disposal of the body before legal and forensic procedures were completed. Further legal action will follow based on the post-mortem and the ongoing investigation.
