PM Modi Alleges Congress Plot for ‘Dangerous’ Communal Law

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking to a large rally in Assam, sharply attacked the Congress party and praised the BJP-NDA’s record and plans for the state, accusing Congress of using communal politics and promising to protect Assamese identity, development and security. He tied his criticisms to past attempts at a so-called “communal violence law” before the 2014 general election and alleged a similar move by Congress in Assam today, while outlining BJP initiatives on infrastructure, women’s rights and tribal protections.

Modi said the Congress-led central government had tried before 2014 to pass a “Communal Violence Law” that, he claimed, painted the majority community as responsible for riots and presumed minorities the victims. “This Bill was communal in itself, so BJP-NDA did not allow it to pass,” he said, adding that Congress in Assam is now proposing a similar measure and that the party would do anything to gain power.

He highlighted BJP measures he said safeguard women’s dignity and rights, citing implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in Assam and steps to protect tribal traditions and Sixth Schedule areas. “The BJP does what it says,” Modi told the crowd, stressing the party’s commitment to preserving the state’s identity.

Modi warned against what he described as efforts to settle foreigners in Assam. “Congress wants to settle foreigners in Assam and make the native sons and daughters of this land a minority,” he said, promising the BJP-NDA would not allow farmers’, tribal lands or forests to be occupied by “infiltrators” and calling that protection a guarantee of Assamese pride.

On development, Modi contrasted bridge construction over the Brahmaputra under Congress and BJP rule, saying only three bridges were built in more than six decades under Congress while five major bridges were completed in just over a decade by the BJP. He also pitched a vision of economic diversification: from tea to electronics and chip manufacturing, saying Assam will be known for chips that power phones, cars, TVs and refrigerators.

Lauding the Assam BJP’s newly released manifesto as a “Mangal Patra,” Modi said it would bring progress and prosperity. He reflected on a transformation under BJP governance, claiming many former militants have laid down arms and that the party’s rule has ended an era of violence. He closed by reaffirming the BJP’s promise of lasting peace, development and protection of Assamese culture and identity.
