Young Leaders Shaping Global Change: Amplify Youth Impact
St. Vivekananda English Academy will host the second edition of its Model United Nations conference, SVEA MUN 2.0, in association with The Assam Tribune from April 1 to 3, 2026, at the school campus. The three-day event brings together student delegates and experienced Executive Board members to simulate diplomatic debate, build public speaking skills and deepen understanding of contemporary global and national issues.
The SVEA MUN series began in 2023 when a group of students organised the academy’s first Model UN. That inaugural conference-described in the source as North East India’s first international MUN-drew more than 180 delegates and received largely positive post-conference feedback. Organisers say the 2023 event also issued UN-accredited certificates through a partnership with the UNHCR for the “Model UN Refugee Challenge,” a collaboration carried forward as part of the conference’s credentials.
SVEA MUN 2.0 will feature four constituent bodies: the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the Lok Sabha and the International Press Corps (IPC). The UNSC will debate rising global tensions and measures to prevent a wider regional conflict in the Middle East. The UNHRC session will focus on the impact of mass surveillance on human rights and strategies to protect the right to privacy. The Lok Sabha committee will consider reforms to criminal law with emphasis on addressing communal tensions, hate speech and politically motivated offences while safeguarding democratic principles and social harmony. The IPC will record and report committee proceedings through journalism and photojournalism, relaying the debates to a wider public.
Organisers emphasise that SVEA MUN 2.0 is student-led and intended as a platform for youth development-preparing participants for life beyond exams by fostering research, diplomacy and reasoned public discourse. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, the announcement reminds readers: “It is best to work among the youth in whom lies our hope – patiently, steadily and without noise.” The academy hopes the 2026 edition will build on the success of 2023 and set higher standards within the regional MUN circuit.
