Congress Lists 40 Star Campaigners for Tripura Bypoll — Who’s Leading?
The Congress has submitted a list of 40 star campaigners to the Election Commission of India for the Dharmanagar assembly by-election in Tripura scheduled on April 9, 2026, a contest the party views as a crucial test of its ability to regain ground in the state following the death of BJP MLA and Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen.
In a letter to the Election Commission, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) named senior leaders who will take part in the campaign, including Jairam Ramesh, Sachin Pilot, Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, Imran Pratapgarhi, Alka Lamba and Christopher Tilak, along with a slate of local Congress leaders who are expected to support outreach on the ground.
Congress state president Ashis Kr Saha said the party has already begun its voter outreach. “We have initiated our outreach efforts. The star campaigners are set to arrive in Tripura on March 31, 2026, and will continue their campaigning activities until April 5, 2026,” he said, outlining the party’s schedule in the run-up to polling on April 9, 2026.
The by-poll, triggered by the vacancy after Sen’s passing, presents an early indicator of party strength ahead of larger electoral battles in the state. Congress officials are treating the Dharmanagar contest as an opportunity to consolidate support and present a renewed challenge to the ruling party.
