The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several northeastern states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Assam, predicting heavy rainfall on March 27. The IMD attributed this significant weather shift to active Western Disturbances, forecasting a variety of weather phenomena such as rain, snowfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds in the Western Himalayan region until March 31.

In a detailed press release, the IMD noted, “Isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over the Western Himalayan region until March 27, becoming more widespread from March 28 to March 31.” The alert also covers the northwest plains, where isolated to scattered rain is expected throughout the week.

The weather office projects scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, to affect the northeastern region and adjacent areas in East India this week. Specifically, isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on March 27. This rainfall pattern will extend to Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya from March 27 to March 29, while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura can expect similar conditions on March 28.

In addition, multiple states in the northwestern, central, and southern regions are under a yellow alert today due to predicted rainfall. The IMD has also forecast light to moderate rainfall for Punjab, which may include thunderstorms and lightning, continuing until March 28. East Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are expected to experience similar weather until the same date.

Hot and humid conditions are anticipated in isolated areas of Kerala, with light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and winds reaching speeds of 30 to 50 km/h expected in Madhya Pradesh on March 27 and from March 29 to March 31. The IMD also indicated that Chhattisgarh would see similar weather in the coming week, along with sporadic rainfall in Vidarbha.

In terms of Delhi’s weather, the IMD has issued a nowcast alert for light rain in areas such as Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, and Karnal. Some very light rainfall is predicted for Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur and nearby regions within the next two hours. As for Thursday, a generally cloudy sky is expected, with light rain or drizzle possible, accompanied by thunderstorms from morning into the afternoon and again later in the day. The maximum temperature for Delhi is expected to range from 29 to 31°C, while the minimum will be between 19 to 21°C, with the minimum temperatures projected to be slightly above normal.

Stay tuned to local forecasts and the IMD’s updates for the latest weather information and alerts as conditions develop. The IMD remains a reliable source for ongoing weather updates, crucial for safety and preparedness during this period of active weather.
