Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday and briefed her on the evolving situation in the state, sharing a photograph of the meeting on X. Singh said he had apprised the President of recent developments and the government’s response, writing: “Briefed Her Excellency on the evolving situation in Manipur and the coordinated response underway. Reiterated that unity, harmony, and peace remain our guiding principles.” The visit was Singh’s first interaction with the President since he was sworn in as Manipur’s 13th chief minister on February 4, 2026.
Earlier this month, on February 24, Singh held his first meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Prime Minister’s Office in Seva Teerth, New Delhi, signalling active engagement between the state and central leadership as the new administration responds to local challenges.
In a separate post on X, the chief minister welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval of the revamped Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)-UDAN, calling it a major step to improve connectivity and boost economic opportunities in remote areas. Expressing gratitude to the Union Cabinet under the Prime Minister’s leadership, Singh noted the scheme’s total outlay of Rs 28,840 crore and said it would strengthen regional air links and accelerate development in underserved regions. “This progressive initiative will further strengthen regional air connectivity, unlock new economic opportunities, and bring remote and underserved regions closer to the mainstream of development,” he wrote.
The Union Cabinet has approved the modified Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) scheme for a 10-year period from 2026-27 to 2035-36, under which the Centre plans to develop 100 airports and airstrips from existing unserved sites. According to an official statement cited by the chief minister, the airport development component carries an outlay of Rs 12,159 crore over the next eight years, aligning with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision of infrastructure expansion and a more competitive aviation ecosystem.
