Tragedy in Manipur: Three Children Drown in Churachandpur Pit
Three children, including two siblings, drowned on March 24 after falling into a rainwater-filled pit at a construction site near a security forces camp in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, officials said. The victims were between three and five years old and were declared brought dead at Churachandpur District Hospital after being rushed there by relatives and neighbours.
The incident occurred in Gangpimual village, close to a security forces training centre, where the children had been playing. A district official said the youngsters accidentally fell into a nearly four-foot-deep pit that had been recently dug and had filled with rainwater.
All three children were residents of the Bezar Veng locality in Gangpimual village. Local authorities and hospital staff confirmed the deaths, and the district official provided the details to reporters.
No further information about the circumstances leading up to the accident or any ongoing inquiries was released by officials at the time of the report.
