Heroic Police Outpost In-Charge Injured While Courageously Preventing Heartbreaking Constable Suicide in Dibrugarh
Tense Clashes at Bogibeel Police Outpost: In-Charge Sustains Injury Preventing Colleague’s Suicide Attempt
Dibrugarh, Aug 31: A harrowing incident unfolded at the Bogibeel police outpost on Saturday, leading to injuries for the outpost In-Charge, Tirtha Chetry, who was shot while attempting to prevent a colleague from committing suicide.
According to initial reports, Constable Pranjal Bora tried to end his life with his service revolver at the outpost. While the exact reasons for his drastic decision remain unclear, preliminary insights suggest Bora might have been struggling with personal issues, potentially stemming from a domestic dispute.
The situation escalated dramatically when In-Charge Chetry intervened to stop Bora. During the intervention, Chetry sustained a gunshot wound to his right hand. "I’m uncertain about the exact cause. However, it appears Bora had some arguments with his wife at home. Upon arriving at work, he declared his intention to commit suicide and drew his weapon. I intervened and got injured in the process," Chetry recounted.
Currently, Chetry is receiving treatment in the Casualty ward of Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh for his injury. Meanwhile, Constable Bora is in police custody, though no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against him.
This alarming incident has raised significant concerns about the mental health and well-being of police personnel, underscoring the urgent need for robust support systems within law enforcement agencies.
The episode at Bogibeel outpost serves as a stark reminder of the pressures faced by police officers, highlighting the crucial need for mental health resources and intervention methods to prevent such tragic events in the future.
