Fatal Excavator-E-rickshaw Crash in Assam Goalpara: 1 Dead, 4 Injured
A head-on collision between an excavator and a battery-operated e-rickshaw at Domoni in Matia, Goalpara district, left one person dead and four others seriously injured, including a child. The e-rickshaw was completely crushed in the impact, triggering panic among nearby residents.
The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Shariful Islam. Among the injured is Shahid Choudhury of Bamunpara in Matia, along with three other occupants of the e-rickshaw. Local witnesses described the crash as sudden and severe.
Local residents, with assistance from the police, pulled the injured from the wreckage and rushed them to a nearby hospital; all were reported to be in critical condition. A child among the wounded was also taken for urgent treatment.
Police teams from Matia and the Superintendent of Police of Dudhnai subdivision reached the scene promptly and worked to control the situation. Emergency responders and authorities coordinated the initial rescue and traffic management at the site.
The accident has shaken the locality, with residents voicing growing concern about road safety and the frequency of serious collisions in the region. Neighbours said the severity of the crash underscored longstanding worries over vehicle speeds and traffic management on local roads.
Authorities remain at the site as the community awaits further information on the victims’ conditions and any steps officials will take to address road-safety concerns.
