Urgent Plea from Small Traders: Halt More Buses on NSC Bose Road to Save Our Livelihoods!

March 22, 2026 2 Min Read

Shoppers flock to NSC Bose Road in George Town, drawn by the bustling atmosphere that surrounds this vital hub. Located adjacent to a bus terminus currently undergoing reconstruction, the area is bustling with activity as 32-series buses continue to provide essential transport services. This accessibility has become a significant advantage for locals visiting the various shops in the Parrys market, seeking goods for personal use or retail supplies to distribute across Chennai.

Arul Kumar, the head of the Harbour section of the Chennainagara Sirukadaigal Vyaparigal Sangam (translated as the “Association for Small Traders in Chennai City”), voiced the collective sentiment of the local traders. He highlighted the importance of the continuous flow of shoppers to the market and expressed a strong desire for additional bus services to serve this critical area. “Having more bus routes stop here would greatly benefit the traders and the community,” Kumar stated, reinforcing the urgency of the request made to the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC).

The ongoing construction work, marked by blue metal barricades, has not deterred the influx of customers, rather it has emphasized the need for more robust public transportation options. Local vendors are optimistic that extending bus services to NSC Bose Road will not only facilitate easier access to their shops but also enhance overall foot traffic in Parrys, ultimately boosting sales.

As Chennai continues to expand, the significance of efficient public transport remains pivotal for small traders. The Parrys market, a longstanding commercial destination, serves as a barometer for economic activity within the city. Engaging with transportation authorities like the MTC underscores the collaborative effort needed to support local businesses while accommodating urban development.

Local shoppers have also expressed their support for greater public transport options in the area. Many believe that increased connectivity will encourage more people to explore the variety of goods available in Parrys, from traditional textiles to fresh produce and unique culinary offerings.

As merchants and shoppers alike navigate the changes brought on by the reconstruction, the hope remains that the MTC will consider the Sangam’s plea favorably. Enhancing public transport options in George Town would not only alleviate congestion during peak hours but also revitalize the local economy.

In these dynamic times, it is evident that maintaining a symbiotic relationship between urban infrastructure and local businesses is crucial. The calls for better bus services on NSC Bose Road reflect a broader need for accessible public transportation throughout Chennai, ensuring that areas like Parrys market remain vibrant and bustling.

As this story unfolds, the local community and small traders will be closely watching the developments surrounding public transport services in their area, eager for improvements that could yield lasting benefits.
