Security forces in Manipur arrested three active cadres of proscribed armed groups and recovered a cache of arms and explosives on March 17, 2026, officials said, in operations across Kakching, Imphal East, Imphal West and Bishnupur districts.
In Kakching district, security personnel arrested 21-year-old Elangbam Abinash, also known as Rakesh, from the Singtom area under Sugnu police station. Authorities identified him as an active member of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA). Abinash, a resident of Hiyanglam Makha Leikai, is believed to have been involved in insurgent activities in the area.
In Imphal East district, security forces detained 46-year-old Mutum Ranjan Singh, alias Mangal, an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), near Irilbung High School under Irilbung police station. Officials said a mobile phone and a scooter were seized from him during the arrest.
In Imphal West district, 32-year-old Taorem Arunkumar Singh, identified as an active member of PREPAK (Pro), was apprehended in the Canchipur area under Singjamei police station. Singh, who hails from Chanam Sandrok Makha Leikai in Imphal East, was found with a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card, officials added.
Separately, security forces recovered a significant arms and ammunition haul from the Ithing Mamang ground area under Keibul Lamjao police station in Bishnupur district. Recovered items included a .303 rifle with magazine, a .32-calibre pistol with magazine, a No. 36 hand grenade, a locally made bomb, 12 live rounds of various calibres, 15 INSAS empty cartridges and a bulletproof plate.
Officials said the arrests and seizures are part of ongoing security operations against proscribed outfits-banned armed groups that have carried out insurgent activity in the state. The detained persons are in custody and investigations are continuing to determine their roles and any wider networks involved.
