Tejashwi Yadav Stands Strong with Mamata Banerjee: Condemns Injustice Amid Kolkata Rape-Murder Outrage
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, addressing the media in Patna on June 5, defended West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee amidst the controversy surrounding the rape-murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata. Yadav criticized the BJP, accusing it of instigating hooliganism in West Bengal. He claimed BJP members were disrupting the peace by looting shops and inciting unrest.
Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is part of the Opposition Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), which includes Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC). Banerjee had clarified that her criticisms were aimed at the BJP, not the protesting students. Nonetheless, complaints have been filed against her remarks in Delhi Police and the Supreme Court, accusing her of inciting unrest.
The West Bengal Chief Minister previously warned that turmoil in Bengal could have a ripple effect on neighboring states like Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi. Responding to these developments, Yadav highlighted that incidents of rape are prevalent in BJP-ruled states and questioned why the BJP remained silent on past atrocities, including those in Bihar.
He accused the BJP of creating panic and disrupting peace, asserting that their attempts would not succeed. Yadav further questioned the BJP’s selective calls for protests, noting their silence on similar incidents in Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh of JD(U), a BJP ally in Bihar, expressed his concerns earlier in August, citing anarchy in West Bengal and criticizing Chief Minister Banerjee for her handling of protests against women’s atrocities.
This multi-front political confrontation escalates as allegations of violence and governance failures are exchanged, showcasing the heightened political tensions between BJP and opposition allies in various states.
