Nishant Kumar Joins JD(U): Nitish Kumar’s Son Shakes Bihar Politics
Patna, March 8 — Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, formally joined the Janata Dal (United) on Sunday at the party’s Patna headquarters and said he would work to strengthen the party’s organisation. The induction took place in the presence of senior leaders, including Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh “Lalan” and JD(U) national working president Sanjay Jha.
An engineering graduate in his 40s, Nishant praised his father’s record, saying the longest‑serving chief minister of Bihar “did a lot for the state in the last twenty years” and that “people of the state will never forget the CM’s contribution to the state’s development.” He did not outline a specific political role but emphasised organisational work.
Speculation is rife that Nishant could be appointed deputy chief minister in a forthcoming reshuffle. JD(U) MLA Hari Narayan Singh, a close aide of Nitish Kumar, said on Saturday that a unanimous decision had been taken to make Nishant deputy chief minister in the new government expected to be formed upon his father’s resignation.
