Police in Assam’s Dima Hasao district arrested two men on the morning of March 7, 2026, in connection with an April 25, 2025 kidnapping and a separate firing incident on February 16, 2026, police said. The operation, led by Maibang Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Himanshu Borgohain, resulted in the detention of Suresh Kherksha, also known as Harish Chandra (42), and a second suspect, Hamchen Dibragade (41), both residents of areas under Maibang police limits.
Authorities allege Suresh Kherksha was involved in the abduction of a truck driver from the Longkhor area on April 25, 2025, and was also linked to a later firing incident in Dikhakhor on February 16, 2026. Police described the suspects’ roles as alleged and said investigations are ongoing to establish the full facts and any wider network behind the incidents.
Officials said the district police had searched for the primary accused for nearly a year before locating and apprehending him during the March 7 operation. Maibang police arrested Hamchen Dibragade in connection with the same case; further details about his alleged role were not immediately released.
The suspects are currently in police custody and will be produced before the appropriate court as the investigation continues, police added. Authorities urged anyone with information about the incidents to come forward to assist the ongoing probe.
