Amid growing concerns about the safety of women in India, an Ahmedabad woman reported a shocking incident of alleged sexual harassment involving a Zomato delivery agent. She detailed her traumatic experience on social media platform X, stating that the delivery agent displayed his genitals while delivering food late at night on August 27. The woman noted that while many women face similar incidents, they often remain silent.
The woman ordered a coffee during heavy rain, which delayed the delivery. When she inquired about the delay, the delivery agent, identified as Shwetang Joshi, blamed the rain but apologized profusely while smiling, making her uncomfortable. Despite her initial concerns, she decided to overlook the behavior.
Upon reaching her doorstep, Joshi discussed an alleged foot injury. However, when the woman used her flashlight to see better, she claimed his genitals were exposed. He allegedly mocked her, seeking assistance. Disturbed, she promptly reported the incident to Zomato but felt dissatisfied with the company’s response, as they stated they needed to hear both sides of the story. She expressed frustration that Zomato asked her to wait until further notice, feeling invalidated and unsafe.
The woman criticized the ordeal, noting she had not received a follow-up from Zomato, which led her to question the safety of ordering food. She condemned the lack of immediate action and the company’s so-called “ethics” concerning safety.
Subsequently, Zomato contacted her, informing her that the delivery agent had been terminated, and his license revoked. They also offered her legal assistance. While appreciative of the actions taken, the woman admitted that she still feels unsafe, fearing the possibility of the driver returning to her address.
