India-Middle East-Europe Corridor: Modi, Netanyahu Reveal Bold Plans
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said in Jerusalem that the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) was discussed “at some length” during talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and that advancing the corridor remains a priority despite regional tensions slowing its pace.
Briefing reporters at the end of Modi’s visit, Misri warned that the corridor’s success depends on stable relations among participating countries, and acknowledged that current regional frictions are affecting progress. He said some partners are nonetheless moving ahead with specific components independently to keep momentum.
Misri described IMEC as an “extremely important initiative” and urged all stakeholders to continue coordinated efforts so the project can advance despite obstacles.
During bilateral talks, Modi reviewed cooperation under IMEC and the India-Israel-UAE-USA grouping known as I2U2, emphasising the need to deepen regional cooperation to boost connectivity and economic ties. “Today we also had extensive discussions on regional and global issues. While promoting regional connectivity, we will move forward with new momentum on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and India-Israel-UAE-USA, i.e., I2U2,” he said.
Modi linked peace in West Asia to India’s national security, saying: “Peace and stability in West Asia are directly linked to India’s security.” He reiterated New Delhi’s longstanding support for dialogue and peaceful solutions, welcoming efforts to de-escalate tensions and endorsing the Gaza Peace Plan as a pathway toward peace. “Therefore, from the beginning, we have supported dialogue and a peaceful solution. This is the call of the Global South and all of humanity. India’s thinking is clear: Humanity must never become a victim of conflict. The Gaza Peace Plan has created a path for peace,” the Prime Minister said.
Modi affirmed that India will continue dialogue and cooperation with all countries to help restore regional stability.
