Sivasagar DC Orders Urgent Safety Measures at NH-37 Hotspots
Sivasagar district commissioner Mridul Yadav on Thursday inspected several accident-prone stretches of National Highway 37 in Dibrugarh district to review the implementation of earlier directives issued to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) aimed at reducing frequent crashes on the busy route. The visit focused on sections affected by ongoing four‑laning work, where construction activity has created hazardous conditions for motorists.
During the inspection Yadav examined the progress of safety measures NHIDCL has put in place following his instructions. Authorities have installed a range of signages — directional, speed‑limit, hazard and diversion signs — and erected temporary safety barriers and fencing around potholes and active construction zones to prevent accidents in high‑work areas.
Visibility and night‑time safety were highlighted as priorities. Roadside speed indicators, delineators and glow signs have been deployed to warn drivers during low‑light or adverse weather, and NHIDCL teams have been sprinkling water on dusty sections where construction generates poor visibility. Officials said these measures have been particularly useful on stretches where dust and construction traffic increase the risk of mishaps.
Yadav reiterated the administration’s emphasis on road safety, saying, “Road safety is a top priority for the district administration. The inspection today was to ensure that the measures we have directed are being effectively implemented on ground. The ongoing four‑laning project is crucial, but it must not compromise safety. We will continue to monitor the situation and take further action as needed, including issuing new directives if required.” His remarks underlined the balance sought between infrastructure upgrades and immediate traveler safety.
NHIDCL officials and other road‑safety stakeholders accompanied the DC and received on‑the‑spot instructions where implementation gaps were observed. The district administration said follow‑up inspections will continue in the coming days to ensure compliance and to further reduce accident risks on NH‑37.
