Akasa Air’s Milestone: First to Operate from Guwahati’s New Terminal

Akasa Air became the first airline to begin operations from the newly constructed terminal at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) in Guwahati when its inaugural service from the facility operated on February 22, 2026. The Mumbai–Guwahati flight departed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 13:40 and landed in Guwahati at 16:45; the return sector left Guwahati at 17:20 and arrived in Mumbai at 21:10. The move marks a key operational milestone for the carrier as it expands its presence in India’s Northeast and shifts services into the modernised terminal.

A ceremonial lamp-lighting and cake-cutting were held at the new Guwahati terminal to mark the occasion, with Bhavin Joshi, Co-Founder and Senior Vice President – Strategy of Akasa Air, and senior airport officials in attendance. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), also attended the event; the first passenger on the inaugural flight received a special boarding pass as part of the celebrations.

The terminal, developed by Guwahati International Airport Limited and operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited, is expected to offer improved passenger flow and facilities. Akasa Air said operating from the modern facility will enable a more seamless, efficient and comfortable travel experience, supporting the airline’s strategic focus on strengthening connectivity to high-growth markets and backing wider development of aviation infrastructure across India.

Since launching in August 2022, Akasa Air reports having carried more than 24 million passengers and currently serves 26 domestic and six international destinations, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Guwahati, Agartala, Kolkata, Dibrugarh, Doha, Jeddah, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait City and Phuket. The airline operates a fleet of 34 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and has placed an order for 226 Boeing 737 MAX aeroplanes powered by LEAP-1B engines, which the carrier says deliver better fuel efficiency, lower carbon emissions and a quieter cabin.

Akasa Air also highlighted customer-focused services such as Café Akasa onboard meals, Pets on Akasa, Braille safety instruction and menu cards for visually impaired passengers, and ancillary products including Akasa GetEarly, Seat & Meal Deal, Extra Seat and Akasa Holidays. The airline described these initiatives as part of its emphasis on on-time performance, operational efficiency, affordable fares and a technology-driven, service-oriented approach.
