Empowering Futures: Lithuanian Economy Minister Celebrates Delhi as AI’s Heart at Transformative Summit, Champions India-EU Trade Deal
Lithuania’s Economy and Innovation Minister Edvinas Griksas underscored the increasing significance of global partnerships in artificial intelligence while attending the India AI Impact Summit 2026. He characterized AI as a “horizontal breakthrough technology,” one that cross-pollinates various sectors and industries, asserting that its full potential will be harnessed only through international collaboration, particularly between India and Lithuania.
During an interview with ANI, Griksas remarked, “Actually, today, New Delhi, India, is the heart of AI.” He noted the gathering of leaders and experts from across the European Union and around the globe, reflecting a vibrant exchange of ideas and best practices. “We can see leaders from all the countries… sharing expertise in AI. Other countries are discussing their initiatives so, overall, it’s an excellent event. I’m very happy to be part of it,” he added.
Griksas highlighted Lithuania’s proactive measures to enhance its AI landscape, pointing to the construction of an AI factory and the establishment of a regulatory AI sandbox. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to formulate a national AI framework that will guide the sector’s long-term development.
In discussing potential collaborations between India and Lithuania, the minister emphasized the interdisciplinary nature of AI’s applications. “AI has its own specialty because it’s a very horizontal breakthrough technology,” he explained, citing its relevance in biotechnology, public and private sectors, and manufacturing. He noted, “The points for cooperation are more than I can count.”
Griksas elaborated on the advantages both countries could bring to one another, saying, “We have some niche technologies in Lithuania, and India is very powerful in the field of AI, so we can always complement each other. AI is about cooperation between countries, and that’s where we should move.”
When asked about the proposed free trade agreement (FTA) between India and the EU, Griksas stated that such frameworks would deepen collaboration across traditional sectors. He articulated optimism surrounding the FTA, suggesting it would foster cooperation not just in manufacturing but also in AI and beyond. “It helps a lot because it’s about cooperation in general. We are positive about this, and it will help us to work in the AI field, I guess,” he affirmed.
These remarks were made on February 19, coinciding with Day 4 of the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. The summit is set to feature over 700 sessions tackling diverse topics such as AI safety, governance, ethics, data protection, and the future of work, indicating a robust focus on the multifaceted implications of AI technology.
As global interest in AI continues to surge, the discussions at this summit are not only timely but pivotal in shaping future international partnerships. Both Lithuania and India stand poised to leverage their respective strengths, fostering innovations that can advance both their economies and contribute to the global AI landscape.
