At least nine people were injured and a house was torched across five districts in Bangladesh amid escalating post-election violence on Saturday, local media reported. Incidents ranged from street clashes to alleged targeted attacks, highlighting continuing tensions after the vote.

The worst single episode occurred in Lalpur upazila (sub-district) of Natore district, where six people were wounded after two groups of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) workers clashed late Saturday. “At least six people were injured during the clash,” The Daily Star quoted Md Mojibar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Lalpur Police Station, as saying. Police arrested two suspects, recovered a firearm at the scene and filed a case.

In Sherpur district’s Sadar upazila, a BNP worker, 35-year-old Giasuddin Rasel, was injured in an attack that local reports say was carried out by members of Jamaat-e-Islami. Rasel had served as an election agent for the BNP’s defeated Sherpur-1 candidate, Sansila Jebrin Priyanka.

Authorities and family members also reported a separate assault in Dakkhin Bhabanipur village in Daganbhuyan upazila of Feni district, where a Jamaat worker, Nurul Absar Belal, was allegedly attacked by BNP men. Citing the family, The Daily Star said Belal was first taken to a local health complex and later transferred to Feni General Hospital.

In Jamalpur district, local journalist Shamsul Huda Ratan was injured while covering post-poll unrest in Dewanganj upazila on Saturday. Ratan told The Daily Star he had gone to Mondol Bazar to collect information about a violent incident and alleged that Faruk Ahmed, senior joint convener of the Dewanganj municipal unit of BNP’s youth wing Jubo Dal, and associates attacked him. “I am still ill. I will file a complaint with the police,” Ratan said.

In Khulna’s Phultala upazila, a gang reportedly set fire to the home of Jamaat supporter Shokor Akunji in Mashiali village on Saturday night. “We could not identify the attackers,” Akunji’s son Abdur Razzak told reporters.

The incidents, reported by The Daily Star and relayed by IANS, underscore a wave of post-election violence affecting multiple districts and involving allegations against members of rival political groups. Authorities have made some arrests in connection with the clashes, and several victims have been hospitalized as investigations continue.
