The Paris prosecutor’s office announced on Saturday the formation of a specialized team of magistrates aimed at investigating potential links between French nationals and the crimes of convicted U.S. sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, as reported by AFP. This development follows the release of U.S. documents revealing Epstein’s connections with notable figures in France. In conjunction with this effort, the prosecutor’s office will conduct a comprehensive review of the case against Jean-Luc Brunel, a former executive from a French modeling agency and a close associate of Epstein, who died in custody in 2022.

The newly established team will collaborate with the national financial crimes unit and local police to probe any suspected offenses involving French citizens. Prosecutors indicated that he had engaged in sexual acts with minors in various locations, including the U.S., the U.S. Virgin Islands, and various parts of France. A total of ten women have accused Brunel, recounting experiences that involved coercion and substance abuse.

The recent U.S. Department of Justice release includes several names of prominent French figures, though their mention does not imply wrongdoing. The prosecutor’s office is now looking into three distinct cases involving a French diplomat, a modeling agent, and a musician. Specifically, they are investigating the appearance of senior diplomat Fabrice Aidan in Epstein-related documents at the request of the French foreign ministry. The prosecutor’s office confirmed that an inquiry is underway to compile evidence supporting this allegation.

In addition, a complaint has been lodged by a Swedish woman against Daniel Siad, a model recruiter with connections to Epstein, alleging sexual acts she describes as rape, which purportedly took place in France in 1990. Another complaint targets French conductor Frederic Chaslin for allegedly committing sexual harassment in 2016.

The recent release of Epstein-related documents had immediate repercussions, prompting former French minister Jack Lang to resign from his position as head of the Arab World Institute. Lang denied any misconduct and expressed shock at being mentioned in connection with an offshore company established by Epstein in 2016. Following the news, the national financial prosecutor’s office initiated a preliminary investigation into Lang and his daughter, Caroline Lang, for alleged aggravated tax fraud and money laundering.

Jeffrey Epstein, who died in a U.S. prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on child trafficking charges, has left a complex legacy of abuse and controversy, with ongoing investigations aimed at holding accountable those implicated in his extensive network of exploitation.
