Unleash Your Imagination: Thrilling Book Fair Opens in Tiruchi!
The annual book fair in Tiruchi, organized by the district administration alongside the Directorate of Public Libraries and the Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI), is officially underway. The event was inaugurated on Friday by Municipal Administration Minister K. N. Nehru, Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, and Collector V. Saravanan, who also toured the various stalls set up for the event.
Running until February 22 at the St. John’s Vestry School premises, this year’s fair features approximately 130 stalls showcasing works from over 100 publishers. The book fair aims to promote reading among children and families, a sentiment echoed by Minister Poyyamozhi. He urged parents and students to explore the diverse range of books available at the fair to enhance their knowledge base. “Previously, book fairs were a rarity in smaller towns, confined mostly to bigger cities like Chennai. However, under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s guidance, we initiated regular book fairs in every district of Tamil Nadu starting in 2021,” he noted.
Poyyamozhi emphasized the importance of reading, particularly as a means to combat children’s growing dependency on digital devices. Alongside the book exhibits, the fair will feature cultural programs by school students and special discussions with invited literary figures, enriching the event with both educational and entertainment offerings.
The Tiruchi book fair serves not just as a platform for publishers and readers but also as a community gathering that celebrates literature and learning. Its success reflects a growing trend in Tamil Nadu aimed at fostering a culture of reading, vital for the intellectual development of future generations.
As the fair continues to unfold, attendees can look forward to a vibrant mix of artistry, knowledge-sharing, and community engagement that highlights the significance of books in today’s digital age.
This annual event is not only a testament to Tamil Nadu’s commitment to literacy but also a celebration of the written word, inviting everyone to rediscover the joy of reading.
