Two residents of Gangtok, 24-year-olds Aman Gupta and Aniket Gupta, died after the Toyota Innova they were traveling in plunged into the Teesta River off National Highway 10 near BadareyVir (29th Mile) in the early hours of Friday, February 13, 2026. The accident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. IST, and the vehicle reportedly fell nearly 300 feet below the highway into the river.
According to family members, the group had gone to Siliguri on Thursday, February 12, 2026, to attend a relative’s wedding and were returning to Gangtok when the crash happened. Details about the cause of the accident have not been released by officials.
Two other occupants of the vehicle sustained serious injuries. They were first taken to the Primary Health Centre at Rambhi and are currently receiving treatment in hospitals in Siliguri.
NH-10, the main road linking Siliguri and Gangtok, has several steep stretches and sharp bends; authorities have not yet provided an official statement on whether road or weather conditions played a role in this incident. Further updates are expected as local police and rescue services investigate the crash.
